More than a survey: Guidance for your EPD route.

The publication combines stakeholder perspectives, a practical guide and experiences from companies. This helps you assess both the benefits of EPDs and their implementation in your own company.

01Stakeholder perspectives in transitionWhat do companies and other stakeholders expect from EPDs today? Which benefits do they perceive – and what has changed compared to 2018?
02Which EPD route fits? The practical guide shows which questions companies should clarify before choosing how to prepare and organise EPDs – from EPD types, programme operators and life cycle assessment to verification, publication and economic viability.
The right route results, among other things, from:NeedProduct portfolio and variantsRequirementspossible or permissible EPD typesUpdate frequencyData situationEconomic viability
03EPDs in corporate practiceHow companies use EPDs, declare their product portfolios and organise data processes. With experiences, recommendations and a classification of growing product data requirements.

The results are complemented by expert perspectives from DIN, EPD programme operators and the ECO Platform.

Findings

Three findings from the stakeholder survey.

Market benefits are perceived more strongly. For market access, competitive advantages and other market-related applications, the development compared to 2018 is particularly pronounced.
Transparency remains a core requirement.Transparency, credibility and objectivity continue to be among the aspects to which respondents attach particularly high expectations.
The strength lies in professional applications. The results point to a clearer understanding of roles: EPDs are seen more as professional information and verification instruments than as tools for direct end-customer communication.
Methodological noteThe basis is the assessment of the stakeholders surveyed. 64% of participants are manufacturers of construction products. The questionnaire was further developed for 2026.
Practice perspectives
